THE LEFT LANE
She who knows ...

Advertiser Staff and News Services

Unforgettable? Perhaps. Only on Maui? Definitely. The Valley Isle snares yet another exclusive Hawai'i concert next week when Grammy-winning vocalist Natalie Cole performs at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center's Castle Theater. Tickets for the 7:30 p.m., March 11 show, at $35 to $75, are available at the center box office or by calling (808) 242-7469. No public performances are planned on O'ahu, but a tour schedule on Cole's Web site says the vocalist will be performing March 10 on a "U.S. Battleship" in Honolulu. We don't know if that's true (if so, it must be a private show), but hey, if the USS Missouri is good enough for Cher ...

Spam fans, rejoice

McDonald's this week is introducing yet another Hawai'i-only menu item, this one part of its new McGriddles line of pancake sandwiches.

Instead of bacon or sausage, this McGriddle comes stuffed with Island-favorite Spam luncheon meat — with maple syrup flavor baked into the pancakes.

The Spam McGriddle joins the Spam, eggs and rice and Portuguese sausage, eggs and rice plates as kama'aina-friendly breakfast items.

Ticket to Broadway?

REGO
Think of it as "American Idol" without TV, Simon or media fanfare. But you get to sing, compete for a cash prize and earn a slot in a national contest. Maybe even find a way to Broadway.

It's the National Society of Arts and Letters' Musical Theatre Competition, accepting entries through March 21.

There will be a sing-off at 2:30 p.m. April 12 at the Sacred Hearts Academy auditorium in Kaimuki. The Hawai'i winner earns a $500 award and qualifies for the NSAL National Contest, with its $10,000 top prize.

Neva Rego, voice teacher and coach, is competition chairwoman. Ask for an e-mailed application at NevaRego@hawaii.rr.com or call her at 734-2774.
