Lingle recognizes student service
Gov. Linda Lingle honored students on the Ahupua'a Service Council yesterday for their community service.
The students from St. Francis, Roosevelt, Punahou, Maryknoll, St. Louis, Kaimuki and Iolani schools did stream cleanup and other projects.
Technology teams invited
High-school students are invited to attend a technology conference March 22 and 23 at the Kamehameha Schools Kapalama campus.
Student teams will compete to solve routine computer hardware and software problems. Cathy Keli'iho'omalu, an IBM executive for Hawai'i and Guam, will be the keynote speaker.
The cost is $5 to attend the conference, coordinated by the Kamehameha computer and technology club. More information is available at www.hitechquest.com.
Pearl City library to close for work
Pearl City Public Library will be closed March 15 to 20 while workers replace floor tiles. The book drop will remain open.
The library also received $2,160 recently from the Pearl City Lions Club to buy shelving for the Children's Room.
Scholarship targets cooks
David Paul's Lahaina Grill is offering two $1,000 scholarships to graduating seniors of Lahainaluna High School who plan to enroll in the Maui Community College culinary arts program in the fall.

City plans event for art educators
Teachers, principals and others interested in arts education are invited to attend Gov. Linda Lingle's arts conference Saturday at Windward Community College in Kane'ohe.
"Creative Partnerships: Teaching Artists & Classroom Teachers" will be held in the Paliku Theatre and Hale Palanakila.
The keynote speaker is Eric Booth, of the faculty at Juilliard. The registration fee is $25.
Kahuku school to unveil sculpture
"Ahonui," a bronze sculpture by Big Island artist Jan Gordon Fisher, will be dedicated at Kahuku High & Intermediate School on Tuesday.
The display, which represents strength through perseverance, is part of the Art in Public Places program.
Online college classes offered
Myron B. Thompson Academy, the state's only e-school, has announced a partnership with National University of La Jolla, Calif.
The charter school will offer high-school juniors and seniors the opportunity to earn college credits by taking university classes online.
