HMSA offers alternative plan

HMSA is offering a health plan to cover catastrophic care for individuals not under a group plan, effective April 1.
The HMSA Catastrophic Care Plan charges $97.25 a month for one person, $194.50 for two and $291.75 for a family.
But patients would have higher upfront costs. Individuals have to cover the first $2,000 of medical bills themselves. The next $1,000 in bills is 80 percent paid for by HMSA if using a participating provider. Anything above $3,000 is 100 percent paid for by the insurer.
For families of two or more, the deductible is $4,000. The next $2,000 is 80 percent paid by HMSA while anything above $6,000 is covered entirely by the insurer.
