Hawai'i's Tabion tosses perfect game against Siena, 8-0

The game was shortened to six innings because of the tournament's mercy rule.
Tabion, a junior right-hander from Baldwin High, struck out four and improved to 9-1 on the season.
UH's Tyleen Tausaga went 3 for 4, including a double and two RBIs. Stacey Ritter added a pair of RBIs and a double.
The Rainbow Wahine (13-12) lost its opener yesterday to Southern Illinois, 6-2.
SIU is 6-2 and Siena is 0-8.
Rainbow Wahine Brooke Wilkins tossed a perfect game against New Mexico State in 1994.
MORE SOFTBALL
HPU sweeps: Hawai'i Pacific swept a pair of games from Brigham Young University-Hawai'i yesterday at the Sea Warriors field.
Brandy Choy Foo scored on Holly Garcia sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift HPU in game one, 4-3.
Clerisse Lemke scattered three hits over seven innings in a 6-0 shutout in game two. Garcia went 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs. and Kara Wedemeyer was 2 for 4.
HPU is now 9-1, 3-1 in the Pacific West Conference. BYUH is 7-8 and 1-3.
BASEBALL
Hilo snaps 12-game skid: Scott Siegfried tossed a five-hitter and Daniel Rhodes drove in two runs yesterday as Hawai'i-Hilo beat Western Illinois, 7-2, ending the Vulcans' 12-game losing streak.
Western Illinois won the first game, 6-5.
Both games at Simmons Field in Kailua, Kona were seven innings.
Siegfried walked one and struck out three as Hilo won for the first time since beating San Diego State on Jan. 25. He allowed both runs in the first inning.
In the opener, the Vulcans trailed 6-1 after 6ý innings, but rallied for four in the seventh.
UH-Hilo is 5-19. Western Illinois is 5-7.
HPU splits: Greg Benoit drove in three runs, and Kai Austin and Sean Paiva combined on a four-hitter as Hawai'i Pacific beat No. 1 Tampa, 7-2, in the second game of a doubleheader yesterday at Aloha Stadium.
Austin gave up three hits and two unearned runs over the first five innings and Paiva pitched the final two innings.
Tampa won the opener, 3-1, behind Eric Beattie's three-hitter.
Both games were seven innings.
HPU is 5-6; Tampa is 16-4.
MEETING
Quarterback Club: Howard Okita, Hawai'i Pacific's softball coach, and Kelsey Nakanelua, an Olympic sprinter representing American Samoa, are the scheduled speakers at tomorrow's meeting.
The club luncheon is at 11:30 a.m. at Pagoda Restaurant.
Iolani basketball player Derrick Low and Punahou soccer player Allison Lipsher will be honored as sportspersons of the month.
SURFING
Andy Irons expresses self: Kaua'i's Andy Irons, the reigning ASP world champion, won the Foster's Expression Session at Snapper Rocks, Queensland, Australia, today.
The Foster's Expression Session is part of the Quiksilver Pro and features the world's top surfers.
The event did not count toward the world title race.
The Roxy Pro is the first of nine WCT events for the women, while the Quiksilver Pro is the first of 12 events for the men on the 2004 ASP World Tour.
BASKETBALL
Chaminade tops UH-Hilo: Sam Henning hit two free throws in the final seconds to lift Chaminade to a 87-85 victory over Hawai'i-Hilo last night in the Pacific West Conference basketball season finale for both teams at Hilo.
The game was played before 2,157 at Afook-Chinen civic auditorium.
Henning's free throws gave Chaminade (8-7, 11-14 PacWest) an 87-83 lead. Ryan Hogue scored at the buzzer for UH-Hilo (16-9, 8-7).
The Vulcans, No. 9 in the last West Regional rankings, will learn today if they will be invited to the regionals. The top eight teams are invited. Brigham Young Hawai'i receives an automatic berth as PacWest champion.
Chaminade led 43-37 at halftime and by as many as 11 points in the second half before the Vulcans' rallied.
Kashif Reyes scored 20 points and Roy Stigall 18 for the Silverswords. Jason Walters had a game-high 15 rebounds.
