Man found dead in HPD cellblock

A 35-year-old man charged Friday with second-degree forgery was found dead last night in his cell at the Honolulu Police Department's main station at 801 S. Beretania St. The man was scheduled for a District Court appearance today.

The medical examiner's office declined to identify the man until next of kin is notified. An autopsy will be performed to determine cause of death.

The man was last seen alive at 7:45 p.m. yesterday. He was thought to be asleep during routine checks of the cellblock, police said. An officer entered the man’s cell and found him dead at 11:20 p.m.

There were no signs of foul play, police said.

Wife charged in stabbing

A Wahiawa woman was charged Saturday with second-degree assault in connection with the stabbing of her 27-year-old husband.

Anayansi Phillips, 28, is being held in lieu of $25,000 bail.

Police found her husband bleeding at 12:47 a.m. at the couple's Wilikina Drive home.

He is in serious condition at The Queen's Medical Center, police said.

HPD transmitter malfunctions

A malfunction at a transmitter in Kahuku yesterday briefly disrupted the emergency communication system used by Honolulu police and firefighters. The disruption lasted about five minutes and did not affect emergency services, said Lt. Robert Cravalho of HPD's Communications Division.

The malfunction in the primary radio system occurred at 8:40 a.m., but communications continued on a secondary system. The primary system was back in service at 2:30 p.m.
