UH 5th in volleyball poll

Advertiser Staff

The University of Hawai'i men’s volleyball has dropped into a tie for fifth place in this week’s USA Today/American Volleyball Coaches Association top-15 poll.

The Warriors were ranked No. 1 for two consecutive weeks before losing to UCLA Feb. 29 and dropping to No. 2 in last week’s poll. They lost two road matches to Cal State Northridge last week before defeating Southern California last night.

"I guess that’s about right based on what’s happened recently," UH coach Mike Wilton said of the Warriors’ poll position.

UCLA and Brigham Young are tied for No. 1, with each receiving 231 points. UCLA received nine No. 1 votes from the panel of 16 head coaches; BYU received the remaining seven No. 1 votes.

Long Beach State is third and Cal State Northridge is No. 4.

UH plays BYU next week in the Stan Sheriff Center.
