Fire causes $30,000 damage to Hilo home

HILO — A fire today caused an estimated $30,000 damage to a two-story home at 2070 Kaumana Drive.Three engine companies responded to the 1:52 a.m. alarm. The fire was reported under control at 2:14 a.m.
The first company, which was on the scene at 1:54 a.m., found flames rolling out of a first-floor window and burning up the front wall of the home. The fire appears to have started in a first-floor room. An upstairs bedroom also was damaged.
No one was at home when the fire started. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
