Anti-drug unit targets home in Lahaina; Two charged

LAHAINA, Maui — The state's Drug Nuisance Abatement Unit, created last July, has filed its first Maui case, closing down an alleged drug house in Lahaina.

The complaint filed in 2nd Circuit Court says drugs were distributed from the house at 741-C Mill St. since 2001 and seeks a court order to prohibit three residents from entering the home.

Judge Joseph Cardoza signed a temporary order that Patrick Hall, Marlynn Hall and Kirk Padua leave the Mill Street residence in the David Malo public housing neighborhood. A hearing on a request to extend the order is Friday.

Patrick Hall was indicted Friday on nine drug charges, including promoting dangerous drugs near schools. The David Malo housing is near Sacred Hearts School. Marlynn Hall was indicted on two drug counts.

The case began with a complaint from a David Malo resident. On Sept. 10, the house was searched and drugs seized.

The three occupants have 20 days to respond.

The complaint was handled by the MPD vice unit, the Lahaina community policing unit and investigators from the state Department of the Attorney General and the county Department of the Prosecuting Attorney.

The Drug Nuisance Abatement Unit completed its first case last month when a final court order was signed banning four people from a Kalihi home that was said to be a center of drug activity for years. A similar case is pending against two men over a house in Wahiawa.

The state attorney general's office said that residents should report suspected drug houses to their local police department, or contact the Drug Nuisance Abatement Unit at (808) 586-1328, or from the Neighbor Islands at (800) 966-6384, or e-mail stopice@hawaii.gov.
