Royal Princess cruise items to be auctioned

By Kelly Yamanouchi

A beer cooler, mock piano bar, disco light, juke box, laser karaoke system and gangway ladder are some of the items to be auctioned off Saturday by Paradise Cruise Ltd.

The items are from the Royal Princess Cruises Inc., which discontinued its charter cruises aboard the 300-passenger Royal Princess and closed down its business in September.

Paradise Cruise, which operates dinner cruises aboard the 1,500-passenger Star of Honolulu, acquired some of the defunct company's assets including the Royal Princess ship and accompanying equipment. Paradise also hired some Royal Princess employees.

"We're currently selling off some of the surplus that we can't use," said Ron Howard, president of Paradise Cruise. He said the Royal Princess ship is not being used.

"We're still kind of mulling that and trying to determine what to do with it," Howard said.

Rosen Auctions is holding an inspection 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. tomorrow. The auction will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at 1320 Kalani St. No. 304, where Royal Princess Cruises was located. More information is at www.rosenauctions.com or call 537-2728.
