HONOLULU

Kuakini Street work to begin

City crews will begin resurfacing Kuakini Street between Lanakila Avenue and Pali Highway from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. today and finish March 25, weather permitting.

One lane will be closed on Kuakini Street, and police officers will direct drivers in construction zones. Pavement striping and manhole adjustments will also be done.

The work is part of the city's emergency road work.

Free workshop on Pearl Harbor

Public and private middle and high school teachers have until Monday to postmark applications for a free workshop on "Remembering Pearl Harbor: History, Memory and Memorial" at the East-West Center and the USS Arizona Memorial Aug. 1-6.

The workshop is also open to parents who are home-schooling their middle- and high school-level children.

There is no registration fee, and O'ahu-based participants will receive a $500 cash stipend. Additional travel subsidies will be available for Neighbor Island participants.

CENTRAL

New route for delivered meals

Hawai'i Meals on Wheels will open a second home-delivered meal route in the Pearl City/'Aiea area on Monday, and there are openings for home-restricted people in the area to be added to the list.

Hawai'i Meals on Wheels provides hot, nutritious food and caring human contact for elderly and disabled people.

To receive meals, people must be unable to cook or shop for themselves. For information on receiving a meal or volunteering to deliver meals, call 988-6747.

EAST HONOLULU

Sale to benefit Kaiser grads

Kaiser High School's Project Grad 2004 will have a garage sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. tomorrow at the school's cafeteria.

Money raised from the sale will benefit the senior class during graduation night festivities.

NEIGHBOR ISLANDS

Boating, fishing rules on agenda

KAHULUI, Maui — Conservation officers with the Department of Land and Natural Resources will be available to "talk story" with boaters and fishermen from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at the Kahului Harbor boat ramp.

Officers Larry Pacheco and Gordon Yen will discuss dive flag regulations, updated fishing rules and other topics, and distribute copies of the Hawai'i fishing regulations handbook. Outdated or illegal fishing gear may be dropped off for proper disposal.
