Guard Michael Kuebler scored 28 points as the University of Hawai'i men's basketball team stunned Utah State, 85-74, in a first-round game of the National Invitation Tournament in Logan, Utah, today.
UH (20-11) handed the 25th-ranked Aggies (25-4) their first loss at home in 16 games and also ended their winning streak at 17 games.
Utah State, snubbed by the NCAA Tournament, entered the game with a 112-9 record at home over the last eight seasons.
UH was in control of the game from the outset and took comfortable halftime lead. The Rainbows led by as many as 20 in the second half.
UH will play the winner of the Niagara at Nebraska game. The Niagara-Nebraska game will be played Friday.
Kuebler hit of four of six three-point attempts.
"You can't say Utah State was down (by the NCAA snub) because they played hard," UH coach Riley Wallace told Oceanic cable 16, which televised the game live locally. "We were hot early."
