QUICK BITES
Something's fishy

By Wanda A. Adams
Advertiser Food Editor

With all the news about overfishing and contamination, should you eat fish? And what about all the good news about fish nutrition and cholesterol-lowering Omega 3 fatty acids? Two resources can help you make an informed decision:
  • The Monterey Bay Aquarium created a Seafood Watch pocket guide to steer consumers toward fish that are abundant, well-managed and caught or farmed in environmentally friendly ways. View and download at: www.montereybayaquarium.org.
  • The environmental defense fund developed a guide to "best" and "worst" fish based on studies of seafood contaminants (mercury, PCBs, dioxins and pesticides). Categories range from "don't eat" to "limit servings." View and download: www.environmentaldefense.org/go/seafood.

Sansei Seafood No. 5

D.K. Kodama's Sansei Seafood Restaurant & Sushi Bar 'ohana will expand by one with a fifth restaurant in Waikiki. He's taking over the space once occupied by Third Floor (later Acqua) in the Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort & Spa on Kalakaua Avenue. Like his fourth restaurant, Vino, which broke the mold by being focused on Italian food, this one will be a little different than the Kapalua, Kihei and Restaurant Row locations: It will be known as Sansei Seafood Restaurant & Sushi Bar and Steakhouse. Look for it to open in the fall.

Todd English, who'll be here for the Gourmet Affair fund-raiser for Big Brothers, Big Sisters March 27, will be inducted into the D'Artagnan Who's Who of Food and Beverage in America.
