Hawaiian Cement ends strike

Hawaiian Cement union members ratified an agreement to end a six-week strike that had stalled construction projects throughout O'ahu.Union members voted 40 to 20 in favor of the new contract, which calls for employees to pay 20 percent of their medical cost. The company had covered all medical cost prior to this contract.
Hawaiian Cement controls about 40 percent of the concrete production in O'ahu. The other 60 percent is controlled by Ameron Hawaii, whose union employees are continuing to strike.
