Anthuriums stolen from farm

PAHOA, Hawai'i — Thieves stole 1,200 anthuriums valued at $3,600 from a flower farm near Pahoa, Puna.

Big Island police said the flowers were taken between noon and 3 p.m. Tuesday from a Floral Resources Hawai'i Inc. farm at Kahakai Boulevard and Pahoa Road. The stolen flowers were of the red, pink, green and Kalapana Obake varieties.

Police warn buyers to be alert for unfamiliar anthurium sellers.

Lane closures set on Likelike

Both Kane'ohe-bound lanes of Likelike Highway will be closed between Valley View Drive and Wilson Tunnel from 8 p.m. today to 6 p.m. tomorrow for road work.



HONOLULU

Group for blind holding meeting

The Hawai'i Association for the Blind will hold its 37th annual convention tomorrow at the Pagoda Hotel on Rycroft Street.

The featured speaker will be Ralph Sanders from Vancouver, Wash., who will discuss "Social Security and You."

Morning registration begins at 8 a.m., and admission is $5. Lunch is $15 and the evening banquet is $25.

CENTRAL

'Sunset' slated at Schofield

The city will hold a special "Sunset in the Park" event this weekend at Schofield Barracks to honor the troops from the 25th Infantry Division (Light) about to be deployed to Afghanistan.

The event is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and will feature live entertainment tomorrow and Sunday as well as children's activities, a crafts fair and movies.

"Pirates of the Caribbean will be shown on a 30-foot screen Saturday and "Seabiscuit" will be featured Sunday.

The free event is open to the public, but everyone must have a current photo identification. Large bags and packages will be searched.

LEEWARD

Waipahu site of benefit car wash

Teens from 'Ewa Beach will hold a benefit car wash from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. tomorrow at Cutter Mazda of Waipahu, 94-135 Farrington Highway.

The event will raise money for youth activities.

A car wash is $5, and prizes will be given away.
