He will be replaced in Honolulu by Jeffrey Green, founder of Media Solutions Consulting Group and a longtime advertising and marketing executive with newspapers in the United States and abroad.

"I've known Jeff for many years, and his energy and leadership capabilities will assist The Advertiser to continue its innovation of marketing solutions for our customers," said Advertiser publisher Mike Fisch in announcing Green's appointment.

"He comes to The Advertiser at a unique time, as we begin the implementation of our new presses, and he will be integral in its success."

Green founded Media Solutions Consulting Group, based in Tampa, Fla., in 1999. Media Solutions has worked with news organizations in the United States, Canada, Africa and Hong Kong, including Newhouse Newspapers, Knight Ridder, Evening Post Publishing Co., Freedom Communications, The San Diego Union Tribune and numerous state press associations. He is a regular contributor to several regional and international industry publications.

Before founding Media Solutions, Green spent 16 years in advertising and marketing positions with Media General Inc., becoming vice president for that company's Florida Newspaper Group. He also has worked for The Milwaukee Journal, The Wisconsin State Journal/Capital Times and The Washington (D.C.) Times.

He was born in Cape Town, South Africa, graduated with honors with a bachelor's degree in business science (marketing) from the University of Cape Town in 1978, and immigrated to the United States the following year.

"It's not often that an advertising executive gets to bring up a brand-new press," Green said. "The exciting opportunities this creates for our customers and salespeople, along with Gannett's commitment to Honolulu, drove my decision to return from consulting to a day-to-day management role."

Green will assume his new job at The Advertiser in June.

In making the dual announcements, Fisch praised Adkins' contributions to The Advertiser.

"During Mark's tenure in Hawai'i, we have introduced many new product solutions for our customers and revitalized our sales and marketing efforts, both in print and online," Fisch said.

Adkins will begin his new assignment in May at Gannett corporate headquarters.

"This was a very difficult decision for my wife and me," Adkins said. "I'll miss The Honolulu Advertiser, our valued customers and Hawai'i."
