Hawai'i Pacific sweeps two in baseball

Alika Kuraoka hit a homer in the first game and two triples in the second game to help Hawai'i Pacific to a baseball doubleheader sweep over Cal State Dominguez Hills yesterday at Aloha Stadium.

The scores were 10-5 and 11-2.

HPU is 11-15, CS Dominguez Hills 9-25.

Grandon Costa and Tyler Ward each had two hits in the first game for HPU.

Greg Benoit of the Sea Warriors went 3 for 3, including two doubles and two runs scored in the second game. Geoffrey Say added two hits, including a double and two RBIs. Kai Austin spaced six hits and took a shutout in to the seventh inning.

HPU added to a 3-0 lead with an eight-run sixth inning, sending 12 batters to the plate.



HALL OF FAME

Coach Barry honored: Former Iolani School boys soccer coach Bob Barry will be inducted into the National High School Athletic Coaches Association Hall of Fame.

He guided Iolani to five state titles and a 328-116-46 record in 26 years.

The induction ceremony will be June 23 at Harrah's Hotel in Las Vegas.

Barry also coached soccer at Willamette (Ore.), Brigham Young-Hawai'i, Massachusetts, Richmond and Hawai'i.

He resigned as an assistant with the Rainbow Wahine after last season and is currently a kicking coach for the Hawaiian Islanders of arenafootball2.
