DIANE CHANG has been named editor of publications at Pacific Media Publishing and will oversee publications that include Ka Nupepa, West Oahu Current and Leeward Current newspapers. She is a former senior editor, columnist and editorial page editor of the Honolulu Star-Bulletin. She also previously served as Hawaii Business magazine editor and Sun Press newspapers news editor. Pacific Media Publishing is owned by Gannett Pacific, which also owns The Honolulu Advertiser.

HOYT ZIA has been named publisher of the monthly magazine Hawaii Business. Zia is former chief counsel for export administration in the U.S. Department of Commerce in Washington, D.C., under the Clinton administration. The law, business and government veteran's career has also included private law practice and in-house counsel for Amfac/JMB Hawaii Inc. He was most recently with the Common Heritage Corp.

GAE BERGQUIST TROMMALD has joined the public relations, advertising, marketing and communications firm Communications Pacific as executive vice president. She will oversee the company's marketing division, which includes CP Advertising, CP Interactive and the promotional public relations group. Most recently, Bergquist Trommald served as senior financial adviser with Saracco, Hochuli, Bergquist Trommald & Associates Group of Merrill Lynch. She has also served as senior vice president for marketing services for Outrigger Hotels & Resorts, and Hawai'i-Pacific regional vice president of Colony Hotels & Resorts. She is a commissioner of the state Foundation on Culture and the Arts and a past board member of the Hawai'i Visitors and Convention Bureau.

• Architect JOHN "JACK" BARRON, an 11-year veteran of the local architectural and interior design firm RIM Architects, has been promoted to associate. During his tenure with RIM, he has worked on projects in Hawai'i, Guam and Saipan. The firm has also hired promotions veteran MARCIE FARIAS as marketing coordinator. Farias has more than 25 years of experience coordinating projects, events and promotions for business and nonprofit organizations, including The Honolulu Advertiser, Girl Scouts of Hawaii, Aloha Festivals, Mission Houses Museum and American Cancer Society.

RALEIGH S. AWAYA, a former chief operating officer of St. Francis Healthcare System, has been named executive vice president and chief operating officer for the Rehabilitation Center of the Pacific. He will report to STUART T.K. HO, president and chief executive officer, who was reappointed at a recent meeting of the nonprofit hospital's board of directors. Awaya is also a former executive vice president of operations for Hawaii Dental Service.
