Public's help asked in finding missing man

Police are asking for the public's help in finding an 18-year-old Manoa man who was last seen Sunday night.

Giovanni "John" Otineru
Giovanni "John" Otineru was last seen by his mother at his Manoa Road home at about 9 p.m. She told police that she discovered John and his bicycle missing at 4:30 a.m. yesterday.

Otineru is moderately autistic and has never been away from home alone this long, said police Missing Person's investigator Phil Camero. Camero said he and family members also are concerned because Otineru was likely wearing shorts and a T-shirt and not prepared for the cool and wet weather.

Otineru likes to ride his bicycle through Waikiki and the downtown area. He also has gone as far as Kane'ohe and Makakilo, where his father lives.

Otineru is 5-feet-8, 195 pounds, with a medium build, short brown hair and brown eyes. He has a red mountain bicycle with two black folding baskets on the rear wheel.

Anyone with information on Otineru should call Camero at 529-3394, or CrimeStoppers at 955-8300 or *CRIME on a cellular phone.
