State Rep. Mark Moses, R-40th (Makakilo, Kapolei, Royal Kunia), suffered a seizure during a hearing of the House Transportation Committee yesterday morning but checked out of a hospital by late afternoon, according to his staff.
Michael Foley, Moses' office manager, said doctors have ruled out epilepsy, a heart attack or stroke but are looking at other causes, including the possibility that the seizure was related to lupus.
Moses, 55, was diagnosed in 1989 with lupus, a chronic inflammatory disease that can affect various parts of the body, especially the skin, joints, blood and kidneys.
The retired Marine Corps officer had been suffering from flu symptoms in recent days and had not been taking much food or liquid, Foley said.
Moses, a member of the Transportation Committee, was participating in a discussion when he suddenly began shaking uncontrollably. After several minutes, he collapsed unconscious in his chair. He was taken by paramedics to Tripler Army Medical Center.
