Lynch, Yokomoto win 4-Ball tourney

John Lynch and Beau Yokomoto parred the first extra hole yesterday to defeat Brian Sasada and Kirk Nelson in the Aloha Section PGA Big Island Candies 4-Ball Championship at Hapuna Golf Course on the Kohala Coast of the Big Island.

Lynch of Ko'olau Golf Club and Yokomoto of Pearl Country Club shot a 5-under 67 yesterday in the alternate-shot format to tie with Sasada and Nelson (72) of Makena Resort at 134.

Sasada and Nelson had a two-stroke lead after the first day.

Defending champions Kevin Hayashi and Lance Taketa finished third at 71—135.

Lynch and Yokomoto won $3,000.

UH's Gammie honored: University of Hawai'i's Dale Gammie, who finished tied for second at last week's Donnis Thompson Invitational, was selected as Western Athletic Conference women's Golfer of the Week.

Gammie, a freshman from Pukalani, Maui, posted rounds of 75-72-74—221 (5-over par) at Kane'ohe Klipper Golf Course. Washington State's Kim Welch won with 219.

It was the first top-10 finish for Gammie, who averaged 77.4 in seven tournament this year.

The Rainbow Wahine will play in the Mountain View Collegiate hosted by Colorado and Colorado State on March 26 and 27.

UH men last: The University of Hawai'i men's golf team was tied for 14th place after the second round of the 15-team Western Intercollegiate at Santa Cruz, Calif., yesterday.

Colorado, Georgia Tech and California were tied for first with 562, followed by UC Riverside (566) and Long Beach State (570). UH was at 610.

Peter Tomasula of California shot a 4-under 66 (two-round 136) yesterday for a two-stroke lead over three golfers at the Pasatiempo Golf Course. Matt Kodama led the Warriors with a 73—143 and was tied for 20th.

The tournament, hosted by San Jose State, ends today.
