An ambulance paramedic prepares to take a 4-year-old boy and his mother to a hospital after a fire at the Pu'uwai Momi housing complex in Halawa.

The woman and young child suffered smoke inhalation from the fire yesterday that damaged their three-bedroom apartment at the public housing complex near Aloha Stadium. The mother also suffered burns to her arm.

Firefighters responded to the 12:22 p.m. alarm at the Kohomua Street residence and reported the fire under control at 12:33 p.m., said Honolulu Fire Department spokesman Capt. Emmit Kane.

The fire was contained to an upstairs bedroom, Kane said. In addition to the woman and boy, another adult and a child, age 2, were in the unit, he said.
