Swim victim's family sues city
The family of a 58-year-old woman who drowned last year at Hanauma Bay has filed suit against the city charging that officials were negligent.
The lawsuit filed yesterday indicates that Sue Kuhlmeier, of Florida, was found floating offshore in an area visible to two lifeguard towers. Attorney Jerel Fonseca charged the city was negligent in several ways including not providing a reasonable number of trained lifeguards, no timely rescue, inadequate warning signs and not removing all hazards from the area.
Lifeguards pulled Kuhlmeier from the water and performed CPR, but she was pronounced dead about 45 minutes after she was found floating.
