THE NIGHT STUFF
Xentopia weeklong club stuff mixes safe, skanky and SuChin

By Derek Paiva
Advertiser Entertainment Writer

Xentopia is billing itself as a weeklong party toasting in the debut of WorldAsia Television — apparently our great nation's first English-language, Asian-themed network.

Whatever.

Being both part-Asian and an occasional television viewer, I'm leery of any broadcast operation possibly angling to beam MTV News' annoying SuChin Pak into even more American homes than she currently invades on a regular basis. Yo, isn't my man Sway part-Asian?

Additionally, Honolulans aren't even able to watch the darn WAT network here yet — not even on million-channel digital cable. So why should I get excited about a broadcast party being taped in my backyard that I won't be able to savor later on my DVR?

As I said ... Whatever.

Still, among a list of fun, fun, fun daytime Xentopia events that included yoga, chess challenges, volleyball, dragon boat racing and the taping of a suspiciously "Club MTV" sounding afternoon dance show called "Eastern Shake," the Night Stuff found a handful of afterhours events that seemed semi-interesting, when not downright skanky.

Except where indicated, all events are for those 21 and older. A $60 "Xentopia Club Passport" allows you to avoid cover at all events. Call the Xentopia hotline at 947-7941 for more information.

Video Mixx Party
9 p.m.-2 a.m. today, $5, Don Ho's Island Grill

Not knowing anyone at Kalaniana'ole Elementary & Intermediate School with the last name Ioki hardly kept me from enjoying Dustin Nguyen on "21 Jump Street." I did, however, feel that he should've called Peter Deluise aside on his over-emoting more often. Nguyen hosts this vid-party with DJ Iman at the house of Ho.

SuChin Pak alert: low.

Foam Party
9 p.m.-2 a.m. Saturday, $5, The Beach House

Foam makes your feet wet, yet generally smells real nice. So when you think about it, it's really the perfect accoutrement for ingesting Red Bull and trance music. April Villanueva, Jaley and Kid Capri perform. An infamous MTV News personality hosts.

SuChin Pak alert: high

Sexy Xentopia Babes
9 p.m.-4 a.m. Sunday, $10, Pipeline Café

Cover doubles with the addition of Playboy model Christina Linehan to the party, for obvious reasons. Kaila Yu sings. Kid Capri spins. There's an "Island Girls" bikini contest. Fun ensues.

SuChin Pak alert: low.

Wet & Wild At The Wave
9 p.m.-4 a.m. Sunday, $7, Wave Waikiki

No Playboy model, but a wet T-shirt contest, April Villanueva, DJ Iman and Dustin Nguyen ... not in that order. Three bucks less than "Sexy Xentopia Babes," too.

SuChin Pak alert: low.

Best Party On The Planet
9 p.m.-4 a.m. Tuesday, $10, Venus Nightclub

Best on the planet? Questionable. Why? Not to be rude, but ...

SuChin Pak alert: high.

Aloha Xentopia Fools Day Wrap Party
9 p.m.-4 a.m. Thursday, $10 (21 and older), $15 (ages 18-20), Pipeline Café

All we know is it's a Hawai'i-themed night with live bands. The Fools Day element eludes us. MTV News represents.

SuChin Pak alert: high.

Wave Goodbye
9 p.m.-4 a.m. Thursday, $5, Wave Waikiki.

Ha, ha! Wave Goodbye at Wave Waikiki! We get it! Ha, ha! Dustin hosts. Iman spins.

SuChin Pak alert: low.
