Punahou alum McLachlin wins in golf mini-tour debut

Advertiser Staff

Former Hawai'i State High School champion Parker McLachlin won his inaugural mini-tour event yesterday, getting up and down from the bunker on the final hole to capture the fifth event on the A.G. Spanos California Tour.

McLachlin won $15,000 with a three-day total of 6-under-par 210 at the Redhawk Golf Course in Temecula. The victory also qualified him for next week's sixth event in Lompoc.

McLachlin, a Punahou School alum, turned pro last year after graduating from UCLA. After playing a few Nationwide events last year, he planned to play on the Hooters Tour in 2004. He gave the Spanos tour a shot first and started auspiciously.

McLachlin had a hole-in-one on the fourth hole of the first round. He shot 69 that day and trailed the leader by one. He followed that with a 69 Wednesday to take a one-shot advantage into the final round of the $100,000 event.

He still had that lead going into the final hole, but put his approach shot into the bunker. McLachlin blasted out to four feet of the hole and sank his par putt to win.
