Hawai'i softball splits on Mainland

The University of Hawai'i softball team split a pair of games at the Stanford Classic yesterday at Stanford, Calif.
UH's Shannon Tabion went the distance against Illinois, allowing two hits en route to a 4-0 win in the first game.
Dana Sorensen struck out 15 Rainbow Wahine for Stanford in the nightcap as the Cardinal won, 1-0.
Hawai'i plays BYU and UC Riverside today.
MORE SOFTBALL
BYUH splits, too: The Brigham Young-Hawai'i softball team split a doubleheader yesterday with Columbia College (Mo.) at BYUH field in La'ie.
Lisa Hansen tossed a three-hit shutout and Sarah Tingey scored the game's only run as BYUH won the second game, 1-0.
Amy Seipp's three-run homer highlighted the Cougars' 6-1 win in the opener.
COLLEGE BASEBALL
HPU splits on road: Kai Austin threw a four-hitter to carry Hawai'i Pacific over Cal Poly Pomona in the second game of a doubleheader yesterday at Pomona, Calif.
Alika Kuraoka's seventh-inning home run broke a 2-all tie, and Geoffrey Say and Grandon Costa each had two hits for the Sea Warriors (15-16).
Cal Poly Pomona (17-11-2) won the first game, 10-3.
Hilo swept: UC Riverside swept a doubleheader against the University of Hawai'i-Hilo yesterday at Simmons' Field in Kailua, Kona.
The Highlanders won 9-1, and 8-7 in 13 innings.
Hilo is 7-24.
PREP BASEBALL
Kalani, Farrington rained out: Yesterday's O'ahu Interscholastic Association Eastern Division varsity baseball game between Farrington and Kalani at Kahala Field was postponed because of rain.
The game was rescheduled for Monday at 3:30 p.m. at Kahala.
SWIMMING & DIVING
UH tied for 24th at NCAAs: The University of Hawai'i men's swimming and diving team moved up four spots to 24th after day two at the NCAA Championships at East Meadow, N.Y.
Sophomore Peter Thew finished 13th in the 200-meter freestyle while the team of Thew, Cheyne Bloch, Andrew Affleck and Kurt Boehm also came in 13th in the 800-meter freestyle relay.
Auburn leads with 435 points, and Hawai'i and Iowa are tied with 14 points.
