Gas/convenience store robbed

A Chevron Hawaii gas/convenience store at 866 Kamehameha Highway in Pearl City was robbed early today by two men, who fled with an undisclosed amount of cash. The men were carrying a knife and hammer, police said.

The robbery was reported at about 5:30 a.m. Police have made no arrests.


Pair escapes fire uninjured

A teenage boy and his younger sister escaped uninjured from a fire today that damaged their Moanalua home at 1739 'Onip'a St. The fire was contained to the master bedroom of the house, said Honolulu Fire Department spokesman Capt. Emmit Kane. The fire was reported at 8:03 a.m. and was under control at 8:18 a.m.


2 teens charged in attack on dad

Two boys, ages 14 and 16, were charged yesterday as juveniles with attempted second-degree murder in connection with an attack on their father with a kitchen knife and hammer. The man, 44, was treated at Kaiser Permanente Moanalua Medical Center and his injuries are not life threatening, police said.

The attack occurred at the family's residence on the 1200 block of North School Street. Police were called at 1:30 a.m. yesterday.

The younger boy is accused of cutting his father's throat with a kitchen knife while the man was asleep. The older boy is accused of hitting his father on the head with a hammer.


Police arrest 2 for suspected drug lab

Police arrested a 36-year-old man and 34-year-old woman yesterday on suspicion of operating a narcotics lab in a Nu'uanu home.

Acetone was among the chemicals discovered by firefighters who responded to an alarm at 31 Coelho Way at 4:46 p.m. The fire was limited to a small bedroom and damage was minor, said fire Capt. Emmit Kane.

The suspects were treated at Kuakini Medical Center for minor burns and released. They were arrested at the hospital at 5 p.m. and booked on suspicion of first-degree promotion of a dangerous drug.


Cause of blaze determined

Saturday night's fire in a fifth-floor Maunakea Towers apartment in Chinatown was started when items near a stove burner caught fire, said Fire Capt. Emmit Kane. The fire in unit 509 at 1245 Maunakea St. was reported at 10:29 p.m. and was under control at 11:04 p.m., said Kane.

Damages are estimated at $100,000 to structure and $30,000 to contents.


Man awaiting trial is arrested

A 43-year-old man was arrested yesterday on suspicion of driving a car at a woman he had been arguing with.

The man was booked on attempted second-degree murder. The woman, 58, was not injured. The incident occurred at 1:15 p.m. at a bus stop in 'Ewa Beach.

The man is free on $25,000 bail and awaiting trial for second-degree assault in a separate incident. On March 11, he was arrested with four others when police captured fugitive Silver Galindo at a Fort Weaver Road residence in 'Ewa Beach.
