HYPING HEALTH: Alicia Silverstone, the blonde bombshell from flicks such as "Clueless" and "Blast From the Past" and the NBC comedy-drama "Miss Match," makes two Hawai'i appearances this week.

She will speak on "Vibrancy and the Spirit of Living," 3:30 to 5 p.m. Thursday at Hawaiian Mission Academy, and at 7 p.m. Friday at the Pai'a Community Center on Maui. FAME GAME: Actors traditionally have a say in what's printed in their playbill bios; generally, the performers thank their mentors and their loved ones and list their show credits. Hermen "Junior" Tesoro, who just wound up a Honolulu Theatre for Youth run in "Dis/Troy," is a member of HTY's acting company, and his charming "credits" — parts he's played around town — include a cockroach, a crocodile, a praying mantis, a hula dancer, a mongoose, a prince, a baker, a waiter, a monk, a puppet, a horse, a soldier, a demigod, an evil stepsister, a taiko drummer, a swordsman, a snake, a juggler, a fish general, a fairy, a mouse, a bone, a monkey, an ogre, a caribou, a blacksmith, a blind and deaf prompter, a surfer and yet another cockroach. What, no mynah bird in one papaya tree? ...

BITS 'N' PIECES: Betty Loo Taylor, longtime pianist for crooner Jimmy Borges, will be honored as a musical treasure of Hawai'i by the National Society of Arts and Letters, Hawai'i Chapter. An array of local troupers will salute her through song — the likes of Robert Cazimero, Melveen Leed, Shari Lynn, Gabe Baltazar and Nina Keali'iwahamana — and the black-tie event, complete with dinner, is open to the public; call artist Ramsay (who presides over the local chapter) at the Ramsay Museum (537-2787), or e-mail Borges at budgy@aol.com. When you inquire, you'll find out the date, time and venue — the activity can't otherwise be "advertised." ...

John Kolivas of the Honolulu Jazz Quartet is pleased as punch. The group's "Sounds of the City" CD just made the Top 50 (at No. 44) on the jazz radio charts. ...

David Sayre, public-relations guy at PR Works, is too humble to let anyone know, so wife Loretta Ables Sayre, who has very little shyness, is proud to flag his mom (her mother-in-law), Sheri Sayre, in the Better Homes & Gardens special-interest publication

Country Gardens, now on the racks. Mother Sayre is an avid gardener "and loves to show everyone who visits their home on Whidbey Island, Wash., her enchanted garden," says Ables Sayre. Sheri Sayre is pictured in the magazine, and if you happened to be at Home Depot last week, the woman showing off the mag, with pride and respect, was none other than Ables Sayre, the Kahala Mandarin Oriental singer. "We wanted to make sure that everyone in the world knew," says Ables Sayre. ...
