AP reports Wie invited to play in Sony Open

Honolulu teenager Michelle Wie, who missed making the cut in January's Sony Open in Hawai'i by one stroke, has been invited to play in the 2005 PGA tournament at Waialae Country Club, according to a report by the Associated Press.

"Michelle Wie's father says she already has received a sponsor's exemption to play in the Sony Open next year," the Associated Press' Doug Ferguson wrote in his golf notebook yesterday.
BJ Wie did not return a phone call requesting confirmation of his statement to Ferguson.
Bill Bachran, media director for the Sony Open in Hawai'i, said: "We do not have any direct information about any of the exemptions for the 2005 tournament at this time."
