Punahou alum NAIA basketball All-American

Menlo College (Atherton, Calif.) senior guard Kii Spencer-Vasconcellos was named to the NAIA All-America third team, becoming the first women's basketball player in school history to earn that honor.

Spencer-Vasconcellos, a 1997 graduate of Punahou from Honolulu, was also a finalist in the WBCA Eastman Kodak All-America team and was the California Pacific Conference Most Valuable Player.

She set school season records for total points (407) and scoring average (16.3).

Men's Basketball

• Northwest Missouri State junior guard Skyler Wilson (Kalaheo '01) scored 14 points, including 12 of 12 free throws, but the Bearcats lost to Southern Indiana, 88-81, in an NCAA Division II Elite Eight quarterfinal game last Wednesday.

On the season, Wilson averaged 10.3 points, 3.5 assists, 3.3 rebounds and 30.1 minutes per game.

• Webster University (St. Louis, Mo.) featured two former Hawai'i high school athletes on its team.

Junior center Kaniela Aiona (Honoka'a '01 of Waimea) started 24 of 25 games, averaging 12.9 points and 5.9 rebounds a game.

Sophomore forward Christian Basilio (Hilo '02) played in all 25 games, starting one, and averaged 4 points and 2.8 rebounds.

Webster finished 16-9.

Women's Track and Field

• Puget Sound (Tacoma, Wash.) freshman LesliAnn Kikuchi (Punahou '03 of Honolulu) placed third in the 100-meter hurdles in the UPS Invitationals on Friday.

It was a personal best time for Kikuchi, who finished in 17.31 seconds.

Baseball

• University of Oregon junior Travis Chock (Punahou '01), a player/coach for the school's club team, was named the Pacific Mountain Conference Player of the Week.

Chock batted 8 for 11 with two home runs and nine RBIs against Central Oregon Community College. He also had four stolen bases.
