• Fourteen-year Macy's veteran ANNETTE BOYNTON has been named to oversee buying and planning operations for Macy's Hawai'i regional buying office. The Hawai'i buying office is dedicated solely to purchasing from local vendors for its Hawai'i and Guam stores. Boynton, previously divisional director of planning of Macy's West, based in San Francisco, is new vice president of merchandising for the Hawai'i region. Local vendors carried under the "Island Attitudes" name, include such well-known labels as Tori Richard, Iolani Sportswear, Reyn Spooner, Jams, Local Motion and Hawaiian Style. Macy's West, a division of Federated, which is based in Cincinnati and New York, operates 141 stores in seven states and Guam.

CAMERON K. HEEN — who is a former catering director for some of the major local resorts, including Kahala Mandarin Oriental, Sheraton Moana Surfrider, Maui Prince Hotels, Hilton Hawaiian Village and Ihilani Resorts — has been named director of catering operations for Windward O'ahu's Koolau Catering Partners at the Koolau Golf Club.

DR. THINH NGUYEN, an attending emergency physician at the Queen's Medical Center, and former emergency medical technician and paramedic in California, has been named assistant medical director for Hawaii Air Ambulance. The more than 25-year-old company flies about 2,000 missions annually, with medically trained flight crews comprised of registered nurses and mobile intensive-care technicians, and is on call 24 hours a day.

RON HELLER, recently named the first Hawai'i "Small Business Champion" by the local chapter of the National Federation of Independent Business, has been selected as the parent organization's regional champion and will be honored in Washington, D.C., in June. Heller was selected regional champion over six other nominees from California, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico and Utah. Heller is a director in the law firm of Torkildson, Katz, Fonseca, Moore & Hetherington, where he specializes in tax law; and has co-written three books on Hawai'i tax law.

• Halekulani Corp., which owns and manages both the Halekulani and Waikiki Parc hotels on O'ahu, has named ROBIN K. GRAF general manager of the 297-room Waikiki Parc Hotel. The almost two-decade veteran of hospitality management, sales and marketing, comes to the hotel following a tenure as general manager of the Outrigger Hotels & Resorts' Waikoloa Beach Marriott, during its $27 million restoration project. He has also served as resident manager of Hilton Hawaiian Village on O'ahu and the Hilton Waikoloa Village on the Big Island, and has worked at the Grand Hyatt Wailea and Hyatt Regency Waikoloa hotels.

• Well-known local management labor and employment lawyer, PERRY W. CONFALONE — chief negotiator for TheBus company during last year's Honolulu transit strike — has joined the local law firm of Carlsmith Ball, as a partner. He is a more than 20-year veteran in employment discrimination claims, compliance issues, contract negotiation, labor arbitrations and other union matters. Carlsmith Ball maintains offices in Honolulu; Kapolei; Hilo and Kona on the Big Island; Maui; Guam; Saipan; and Los Angeles.

LIANE BROWN, a practicing attorney for about 14 years — first with Torkildson Katz Fonseca Jaffe Moore & Hetherington, and most recently with Bays Deaver Lung Rose & Baba, has been named associate general counsel for Aston Hotels & Resorts. The Honolulu-based company operates 30 condominium resorts and hotels, with 5,000 rooms on four major islands.
