Age: 50
Profession: Owner of Holopapa Wood Flooring
Height: 6 feet, 3 inches
Weight: 235 pounds
Target weight: 225 pounds
Workout habits: Surf with or without his dog at least six times a week. "My work is a workout," he says.
When and why I started working out: "When my oldest son, Kamakana, graduated from high school, I had more time. My wife and sons bought me a board for Father's Day, and I got back into surfing. When my younger son, Pono, went to college, it gave me even more time to pursue my passion for surfing."
Good foods/bad foods: "Chicken, chicken, chicken and salads/buttermilk bars from Zippy's, and Häagen-Dazs bars."
My biggest motivator: "My wife and my two sons."
My biggest roadblock to fitness: "No waves, and chocolate cake."
What saves my sanity: "Paddling out with my friends at dawn, with the full moon's reflection soothing my soul."
My next challenge: "To keep it all in balance mentally and physically."
Advice for those in the same boat: "Find something that you're passionate about and make that a top priority. My board is 55 pounds, and Nalu is 70 pounds, and surfing with him became a workout without my even realizing it."
