Singer talks of broken heart

By Wayne Harada

It's splitsville for singer Kenny Loggins and his healer-author wife Julia; their home in the North Kohala area of the Big Island is for sale.

"We're a little over three weeks into the separation," said Loggins, who gives two Island concerts this week — a Friday performance at the Waikiki Shell and a Mother's Day gig Sunday at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center in Kahului. "I'm suffering from a broken heart; I didn't see it coming."

Loggins, formerly of the hit-making musical duo Loggins & Messina ("House at Pooh Corner"), said he's going public about the troubled marriage for the first time.

"I would say, for the record, that we are being true to our wedding vows; and that is, releasing each other to further our own spiritual paths," he told The Advertiser.

With Julia, Loggins co-wrote an album, "The Unimaginable Life: Lessons Learned on the Path of Love." For his last CD, "It's About Time," he wrote a tune with his wife in mind called "With This Ring" for the wedding band he gave himself on her birthday. He had not worn a wedding ring previously.
