Wie, 14, a Punahou School freshman who finished fourth at the Nabisco Championship in March, has hired Mike "Fluff" Cowan as her caddie at the Michelob Ultra Open at Kingsmill, Va.

"Michelle was so happy to hear the news when I picked her up at school," her father, BJ Wie, told the Los Angeles Times.

Cowan worked for Tiger Woods when he won the Masters in 1997. He has worked the past five years for U.S. Open champion Jim Furyk, out indefinitely recovering from wrist surgery.

The 72-hole tournament will start tomorrow with a cut of the field after Friday's round.

The tournament ends Sunday.

Wie will tee off 2 a.m. Hawai'i time tomorrow.

This will be Wie's third LPGA tournament of the year. She is allowed six sponsors' exemptions per year.

At the LPGA's first major of the season, the Kraft Nabisco Championship, Wie finished in fourth place, shooting a final-round 71.

She finished four shots behind winner Grace Park.
