NEIL T. ROSE, who joined the Honolulu investment management firm of Cadinha & Co. last year as a research analyst, has been promoted to vice president. Rose, a Cadinha & Co. intern in 1999 and 2002, is a candidate for the Chartered Financial Analyst designation. He will continue in his role as portfolio manager and research analyst.

• Nishihama & Kishida CPAs has announced two sets of promotions, to positions as audit seniors, and tax seniors.

  • Promoted to audit senior status within the Audit Division, are former staff accountants JONAH KANESHIRO, PAMELA LEE, CINDY SASAKI and DAYNA UEHARA.
  • Promoted to tax senior status, with the company's Tax Division, are HELEN NAKAMOTO, TRACEY-LEIGH MENDE and ROMMEL MARZAN.

The Bishop Street firm provides statewide services including management consulting and training, tax planning and preparation, accounting and auditing and bookkeeping.

JIM KELLY will take over as editor of Pacific Business News in mid-May, publisher Larry Fuller announced. Kelly, 44, is a former executive editor of The Advertiser and most recently worked as assistant managing editor of the Fresno Bee in California. He replaces former PBN editor Gina Mangieri, who left in February to start a day-care operation, Fuller said.

MICHELLE M. CHUN has been named manager of the Safeguard Services Inc. Shopping Division, which provides "mystery shoppers" to retail stores, restaurants, hotels, bars, banks and other businesses statewide. Chun, employed at the security, investigations and consulting company since 1999, was previously the division's assistant manager. She is the only Hawai'i member of the worldwide Mystery Shopping Providers Association.

BRIAN C. NISHIDA, president and chief executive officer of Maui Land & Pineapple Co. Inc. subsidiary, Maui Pineapple Co. Ltd., has been elected to the additional post of executive vice president/agriculture operations of the parent company.

RANDALL H. ENDO, previously a development manager, has been named vice president of government affairs. Both of the newly created positions are meant to facilitate the company's communications with planners and policy makers on county, state and federal levels.

The newly created positions are among a number of executive promotions at Maui Land & Pineapple Co. Inc. and subsidiaries, Kapalua Land Co. Ltd. and Maui Pineapple Co. Ltd.

• Maui Pineapple Co. Ltd.: CALVIN H. ODA, who joined Maui Pineapple in January, has been promoted to senior vice president/product development. Company veteran, WESLEY M. NOHARA, long involved with the company's Hali'imaile and Honolua plantations, will assume the position of vice president/production management.

• KAPALUA LAND CO. LTD.: A departmental reorganization will include several promotions: GARY M. PLANOS will be promoted to senior vice president/resort operations, supported by MARTIN B. KEITER, as vice president/golf and tennis operations (formerly director of golf and tennis); NANCY C. CROSS, as vice president/events management (formerly director of the Mercedes (golf) Championships), and KIM D. CARPENTER, vice president/marketing.

Community planning and development staff changes include the promotion of longtime senior planning executive, ROBERT M. McNATT, to senior vice president/planning and development. RYAN L. CHURCHILL, formerly development manager, was named to the position of vice president/planning, and THOMAS J. SELBY, as vice president/finance. Selby will oversee The Kapalua Villas' business unit, Commercial Properties, Retail Operations, facilities and landscaping maintenance, utilities, and administrative departments, including Human Resources. Selby is a former vice president/finance for Castle & Cooke Resorts LLC.

All promotions are effective June 1.

CAROL SHIN has been promoted from Island Insurance Companies' Claims Division adjuster, to Personal Injury Protection and Workers' Compensation/Medical Only supervisor. She joined the companies in 1978 as an adjuster and has spent more than 25 years in the claims division.

ADELINE LUI has been hired as marketing and promotions manager of Desert Island Restaurants, owner of the three Hawai'i Ruth's Chris Steak House locations. The former Milici Valenti, Honolulu, employee will be based at the company's Scottsdale, Ariz., headquarters. The company is headed by former Honolulu entrepreneur, Randy Schoch.

GARY SHIRAISHI, has been promoted from field sales manager to the newly created position of vice president of sales at The Islander Group, distributor of music, books, videos, stationery, souvenirs, gifts and sporting goods.
