Kop wins Hickam golf by five strokes

Brandan Kop fired a final-round 67 yesterday to win the Hickam Invitational by five strokes at Mamala Bay Golf Course.

Kop's three-round total was 208. Defending champion Mark Chun was second (69—213) and second-round leader Jonathan Mathias (74—214) was third.

Wendell Kop shot a 79 yesterday to win the senior flight by six strokes. His three-round total was 223.


WRESTLING

• Honolulu's Lee wins Pan Am title: Honolulu's Stephany Lee won the 158.5-pound title yesterday at the Pan American Wrestling Championships at Guatemala City, Guatemala.

Lee, who attends Missouri Valley College, won both her matches yesterday.

She pinned Venezuela's Raine Guerra at the 2:37 mark, and routed Rosangela Conceicao of Brazil, 10-0, in the final.

Kailua's Danyelle Hedin lost to Colombia's Sandra Roa, 7-2, in the 121-pound final. Hedin won three matches by pin yesterday to get to the final.


MIXED MARTIAL ARTS

• "Cabbage" loses: John Marsh of Los Angeles upset Hilo's Wesley "Cabbage" Correira in the main event of the Rumble on the Rock 5 mixed martial arts card Friday night at the Blaisdell Center Arena.

Despite being out-weighed by 37 pounds (277-240), Marsh controlled all three rounds of the heavyweight bout. He was awarded a unanimous decision to improve to 4-4. Correira dropped to 20-6.

In other key matches, Matt Lindland of Oregon defeated Tony Fryklund of New Jersey by unanimous decision, and Ronald Jhun of Waipahu defeated Ryan Schultz of Oregon by technical knockout in the first round.

Other bouts: Royden Demotta defeated Vance Pu by first round TKO; Harris Sarmiento defeated Justin Mercado by split decision; Kaynan Kaku defeated Santino Defranco by unanimous decision; Jason Lambert defeated Mike Rogers by first round TKO; Joe Riggs defeated Kendall Groves by first round KO; Danny Steele and Melvin Murray fought to a three-round draw.
