O'ahu gas price hits record high

The average price for gasoline reached a record $2.103 a gallon on O'ahu yesterday, according to AAA travel club. That's nearly 13 cents above a year ago.

In Wailuku, Maui, the average price of $2.429 a gallon was a penny below a high reached on Wednesday.

Statewide, the average price for regular stood at $2.192, which was fractionally lower than a high of $2.193 hit Friday.


Order against Jackie's holds

World Airways Inc. got its temporary restraining order extended for another 10 days against Jackie's, the travel company that canceled thousands of charter tickets to Las Vegas last month.

A federal judge granted the extension on Friday.

The restraining order freezes the company's client trust account except to pay for refund checks and operational expenses, said Mark McMillin, assistant general counsel for World Airways.

World Airways said Jackie's owes it $2.7 million for chartered services from March 4 through May 2. Jackie's disputes the amount.


$27 million buyout of firm complete

BAE Systems North America yesterday said it completed its $27 million cash purchase of STI Industries Inc.'s Honolulu-based government contracting business.

BAE announced the deal in early April. STI's former government contracting business, which employs about 125 people, will change its name to BAE Systems Spectral Solutions. STI Industries continues to operate in Honolulu focusing on its medical diagnostic imaging and advanced technology research and development businesses.


Tourism agency presents update

The Hawaii Tourism Authority and its marketing partners are holding a public meeting to present an update on Hawai'i's 2004 Annual Tourism Marketing Plan.

The meeting is set for 3 to 5 p.m. tomorrow at the Hawai'i Convention Center. Among participants will be Rex Johnson, HTA chief executive officer; Frank Haas, HTA marketing director; and John Monahan, chief executive officer of the Hawaii Visitors and Convention Bureau.
