2 critically injured in Kaka'ako shooting

A 47-year-old woman was shot last night at a Kaka'ako bar, allegedly by her former boyfriend, police said.

The shooting at Club Queen Bee at the corner of Queen and Cooke streets was reported to police at 9:28 p.m.

Sun Wang was shot twice in the head while the alleged shooter, 52-year-old Hwa Yong Park, suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. According to court records, Park had previously threatened to kill Wang.

Wang is in critical condition at The Queen’s Medical Center. Park was taken to Straub Clinic & Hospital with critical injuries.

Police confirmed the names of the two injured parties and said Park was the shooter. The case is being investigated as an attempted murder and attempted suicide.

Wang was granted a temporary restraining order by Family Court Judge Karen M. Radius on March 24. The order prohibited Park from any contact with her. The order was due to expire June 6.

According to court records, yesterday was Park’s birthday.

In filing for the protective order, Wang said through her attorney, Kathy M. Kim, that Park had been stalking and harassing her because "... he refuses to accept the fact that our relationship is over."

The court document says that at different dates in January and February this year, Park assaulted Wang. Wang alleged in the court document that Park told her in December, "If I ever see you with another man, I will kill you with a sashimi knife."

Wang said Park called her every night, slept in the parking lot of her Amana Street apartment and followed her. "I see him every morning watching my apartment from a rear parking lot," she said. "... When I don’t answer my calls, he would call my friends to make threats."

Wang said she believed Park was an immediate danger to her because "he threatened to kill me and also he physically assaulted me in the past."

Wang’s attorney declined comment today. Witnesses told police they heard an argument in the Queen Bee’s employee break room between a man and woman and then the shots.
