Broken valve limits Kunia water use

By Curtis Lum
Advertiser Staff Writer

Residents in the Royal Kunia subdivision are asked to use water sparingly until further notice because of a broken underground valve.

The break occurred Tuesday between two Honolulu Board of Water Supply reservoirs. Water pressure has been very low, especially for homes higher up in the Royal Kunia development.

Work was halted when workers realized they did not have a replacement part, said board spokeswoman Tracy Burgo. "We can't do anything because we're waiting for that special fitting," she said.

Meanwhile, residents of the subdivision's 1,000 homes should use water only for essential needs, such as personal hygiene, drinking and cooking. Residents should refrain from doing laundry, watering lawns and washing cars until the repairs are made, Burgo said.

The board has set up an emergency pumping system to provide limited water supply to the homes. Burgo said although the water pressure remains lower than normal, the subdivision's needs are being met.

Residents can call 748-5010 to arrange for a wagon to bring water to their homes.
