Choy, Chun share state girls golf lead

Leilehua sophomore Britney Choy and Kamehameha junior Mari Chun share the first-round lead at the HHSAA/David Ishii Foundation Girls Golf Championships after shooting 1-over-par 73 yesterday at the Wailua Golf Course on Kaua'i.

Choy, the O'ahu Interscholastic Association champion, shot 36-37 and Chun, the Interscholastic League of Honolulu champion, shot 35-38 in hot conditions on the 6,180-yard layout.

Waiakea junior Amanda Wilson, the Big Island Interscholastic Federation champion, is tied for third at 74 with Kaua'i senior Jennie Pleas.

Two strokes behind the leaders are Punahou senior Lindsey Hong and Kaua'i freshman Miki Ueoka.

Defending state champion Kira Murashige, who transferred back to Waiakea from Hilo, is tied for 29th at 83.

Kaua'i, behind Pleas, Ueoka and Kiilani Matsuyoshi's 80, shot 229 to take a four-stroke lead over Punahou.
