HPU's Choy Foo All-West in softball

Hawai'i Pacific senior shortstop Brandy Choy Foo has been named to the 2004 Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division II All-West Region First Team.

Receiving second-team honors were HPU's Holly Garcia, Jamie Reyes and Jennifer Baron, and Hawai'i-Hilo's Natalie Fujimoto.

Choy Foo was recently named Pacific West Conference Player of the Year after leading the conference in four categories. She was the PacWest batting champ with a .371 batting average, had an on-base percentage of .457, recorded 16 doubles and scored 38 runs.

Garcia, a senior first baseman, led the PacWest in RBIs (37), was second in batting average (.365), and holds the HPU career home run record (15).Ê

Reyes, a junior outfielder, batted .346, with 10 doubles, two triples and four home runs.

Baron, a sophomore designated player, led the Sea Warriors with seven home runs.

Fujimoto, a sophomore catcher, led the Vulcans with a .363 batting average, a .522 slugging percentage and .402 on-base percentage.

• BYUH women advance: The top-ranked Brigham Young-Hawai'i women's tennis team was the only Hawai'i squad to advance into today's NCAA Division II National Tournament quarterfinals at Altamonte Springs, Fla.

The Lady Seasiders (32-0) swept 11th-ranked Valdosta State, 5-0.

Also, West Florida's women eliminated 11th-ranked Hawai'i-Hilo, 5-3, while Valdosta State's men ousted BYUH, 5-3. The two-time defending NCAA champion Seasiders finished at 22-7.
