Woman dies from gunshot wounds

A 47-year-old woman shot Tuesday night at a Kaka'ako bar by her former boyfriend died yesterday at The Queen’s Medical Center.

Sun Wang was pronounced dead at 3:30 p.m., said homicide Lt. David Kamai.

Wang was shot twice in the head at Club Queen Bee at the corner of Queen and Cooke streets by Hwa Yong Park, 52, police said. Park then shot himself in the head, according to police.

Park remains in critical condition at Straub Clinic & Hospital. Park was served with a court order, signed on March 24, prohibiting him from contacting Wang.

Man arrested in check forgery

A 25-year-old Aliamanu man was arrested yesterday on suspicion of forging and cashing checks stolen in a Waikiki burglary earlier this year.

The man is suspected of cashing seven checks from Feb. 2-24 worth $4,632, police said. The checks were stolen from a Waikiki clothing company sometime between January and February of this year.

Financial fraud investigators said the man is suspected of cashing more checks and the total amount of losses may exceed $10,000.

The man was booked for second-degree forgery and second-degree theft yesterday at 4:30 p.m. after being arrested earlier on a parole revocation warrant.

Box jellyfish nearly gone from beaches

City Ocean Safety officials today found few box jellyfish at Waikiki beaches. "It’s 90 percent gone," said Rob Miller of the Ocean Safety Division, of the latest jellyfish influx. He said two jellyfish were found on shore at Kuhio Beach.

On Wednesday, the eighth day after a full moon, lifeguards found more than 1,000 box jellyfish in the same area. The box jellyfish influx usually occurs eight to 10 days after a full moon.

Cancer Society postpones relay

Threatening weather conditions have prompted the American Cancer Society to cancel its 24-hour Hawai'i Kai Relay for Life.

The relay was to be held at Sandy Beach beginning at 7 tonight.

City parks and recreation officials urged the society to cancel it because rain and thundershowers are forecast.

The relay will be held from July 23 to July 24.
