Local favorite: Pets on parade at Petwalk

The annual Petwalk, a benefit for the Hawaiian Humane Society, begins at 8 a.m. June 20 (registration at 7 a.m.) at Magic Island and Ala Moana Beach Park. Collect pledges, bring your pet and enjoy the camaraderie of other pets and their people. There'll be refreshments, a tail-wagging contest and a pet costume contest, too. Go to www.hawaiianhumane.org to sign up, or pick up a form at sites including Cookie Corner, Foodland and Subway stores, your veterinarian's office and the Humane Society.


STAGE: May 21-June 6

Diamond Head Theatre follows up a successful run of "Swing!" with another fun-loving musical, "Hello Dolly!" When turn-of-the-century matchmaker Dolly Gallagher Levi decides one of her clients is a perfect match for her, hilarity ensues. The play includes popular songs such as "Before the Parade Passes By" and "Put on Your Sunday Clothes." Shari Lynn stars as Dolly; John Rampage directs. Tickets are $12-$42, with discounts for students, seniors and military.

CONCERT: May 23

Kapono's will be on fire when the final concert in the Bluegrass Beat Meets Hawaiian Heat series lights up the stage. Local slack-key legend Ledward Ka'apana (left) heats things up, along with O'ahu bluegrass band The Squirrel Hunters. Tim Stafford and Rob Ickes, Grammy award-winning members of the bluegrass group Blue Highway, add sizzle to the mix. Advance tickets are $18 general, $10 children, free for those 10 and younger. At the door, tickets are $23 general and $12 children. Because May is National Military Appreciation Month and National Bluegrass Music Month, active-duty military personnel with ID receive a 2-for-1 discount on tickets at the door.

CONCERT: June 11

Dust off your platform dancing shoes because it's time to get down during the '70s Soul Jam. Cool cats can travel back to the decade of glittery funk with hot jams by The Stylistics, The Emotions, Harold Melvin's Blue Notes, The Chi-Lites (below), Carl Carlton and Eddie Holman. Local diva Yvonne Elliman also performs. Tickets are $35 and $45.

STAGE: June 17-20

Expect giggles galore when Joe Moore and Pat Sajak team up again on stage, this time for "The Honeymooners: The Lost Episodes." Ralph Kramden and Ed Norton come back to life for more laughs and gaffs during this limited-run engagement. Jim Hutchison directs. Tickets: $17.50, $27.50 and $37. There is a $3 discount for seniors and $5 discount for Manoa Valley Theatre 2003-04 season subscribers, PBS Hawai'i member cardholders and Hawai'i Theatre Center members.

FESTIVAL: May 27-30

The Honolulu Gay and Lesbian Cultural Foundation presents the 15th annual Honolulu Rainbow Film Festival, formerly called the Adam Baran Honolulu Gay and Lesbian Film Festival. Film offerings this year includes "Revolution," a documentary featuring Margaret Cho on opening night, and "A Touch of Pink," with Kyle MacLachlan from "Sex and the City." Tickets to each film are $6. There will also be a free educational screening on May 29, featuring the documentary "Brother Outsider: The Life of Bayard Rustin." Later that evening, there will be a gala reception at 5:30 p.m. at the Henry R. Luce Pavilion for the premiere of "Eating Out." The cast and producers of the film will make an appearance. Tickets are $25 for the reception and film screening. All other films are $8 general, $6 for HGLCF members.

STAGE: June 2-July 4

The Actors' Group wraps up its 2003-04 season with the Broadway comedy "The Sunshine Boys." Here's the story: A popular comic duo from the late '20s to the '60s, Willie Clark and Al Lewis are asked to come together again by Willie's nephew Ben for a vaudeville sketch. But the problem is getting them together in the first place, since they had a falling out more than a decade earlier. Glenn Cannon directs the play and also acts as Willie, with Sam Polson as Al. David Farmer plays Ben. Tickets are $10.

CONCERT: June 4

Jaci Velasquez takes to the stage during a star-studded night in the Islands. The award-winning Christian recording artist and her seven-piece band perform along with Jody McBrayer of Avalon. Local sounds added to the mix include, from left, Kutmaster Spaz, Kelly Boy DeLima, Nalani Choy; and Danny Couch, Rocky Brown, Maila Gibson, Kanoe Gibson, David Katina and Dane Ison. Tickets are $15, $20 and $25.

PARADE: June 12

It'll be a treat for the eyes and noses of all when the 88th annual King Kamehameha Celebration Floral Parade gets under way. Catch sight of vibrant floral floats, statuesque pa'u riders and precise marching bands at this yearly colorful treat. This year's theme is "Na Mo'olelo O Kamehameha I," or "Legends of Kamehameha the Great." An awards presentation as well as the Folklife Festival at Kapi'olani Park follow the parade. At the festival, there'll be arts and crafts demonstrations, food booths, entertainment and displays. Admission is free.

3 ... 2 ... 1 ... blastoff! Sesame Street Live is back and they're out of this world! After a spaceship lands on Sesame Street, the lovable gang of Big Bird, Elmo, Bert and Ernie, Cookie Monster and Zoe join forces to tell two Martians how to get, how to get back into outer space. On opening night, all seats are $11. Tickets for subsequent shows are $11, $15 and $19.
