AMANDA WILSON

Waiakea junior Amanda Wilson birdied the final five holes to tie Mid-Pacific Country Club's women's course record yesterday in the opening round of the 54th annual Jennie K. Wilson Invitational.

Wilson shot a 6-under-par 66 to tie the mark set by Lori (Castillo) Planos when she won the 1983 Jennie K. Defending champion Stephanie Kono also shot a 66 during her practice round Sunday.

Planos' score came when the course played to par-73. She also set the tournament record of 216.

Wilson goes into today's second round with a four-shot advantage over Kono, a Punahou eighth-grader, and Kamehameha Schools junior Mari Chun. Kimberly Kim, 12, and Kaua'i High freshman Miki Ueoka also shot sub-par rounds (71) and are five back.

Thursday, Wilson was third at the girls state high school championship. Jennie Pleas, who finished two shots ahead of her, is alone in sixth place after a 72 yesterday.

High school champion Britney Choy is not playing this weekend because her academic work load is too heavy.

The final round is tomorrow, with the Championship Flight teeing off at approximately 8:45 a.m.
