Wear art on your sleeve at museum
Advertiser Staff
The Honolulu Academy of Arts' new Free Sunday program, sponsored by Bank of Hawaii, continues monthly throughout 2004. From 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. today, the doors will be open free of charge for residents and visitors to browse through the museum. There will be entertainment, art activities for kids, gallery tours and other activities. The Free Sunday program does not include the current "Japan and Paris" exhibit on show in the Luce Gallery. The Pavilion Cafˇ will serve lunch from 11:30 a.m. until 2 p.m.
This month's theme is Wearable Art. The event features art in clothing across cultures and time periods. Keiki will have the opportunity to create their own T-shirt design or apply temporary tattoos and airbrush face and body painting.
University of Hawai'i-Manoa fashion design students will stage a keiki fashion show, and local musicians will perform. Visitors may participate in a gallery hunt highlighting wearable art from many cultures found in various artworks in the galleries.
Themes change monthly and tie in with the academy's permanent collections and special traveling exhibitions. On June 20, the theme will be Medieval Faire.
