Nene Awards honor winners of student contest

Essay, poster and performance contest winners were honored at the Hawai'i State Public Library System's 2004 Nene Award ceremonies on Friday.

Author Judy Blume took top votes of more than 7,900 Hawai'i students to win the annual Nene Award.

Essay contest winners were Rachel Ray, Grade 4, Kane'ohe Elementary; Tyler Mendes, Grade 5, Kane'ohe Elementary; and Miranda Glenn, Grade 6, St. John Vianney Parish School.

Winners of the poster contest were Stephanie Lum, Grade 4, Maryknoll School; Sophia Miyoshi, Grade 5, and Victoria Ah Mook Sang, Grade 6, Kane'ohe Elementary. Honorable mentions went to Jarin Harada, Maryknoll School; and Misinale Vakameilalo and Jani Lindley, Kane'ohe Elementary.

Performance contest winners were Grade 4, "Count Olaff's Dinner," by Christine Che, Kelsie Lau and Troy Wong, Maryknoll School; Grade 5, "The Marvelous Marriage," by Brie Adams, Megan Rodrigues and Stephanie Ung, Maryknoll School; and Grade 6, "Cooking Dinner" by Dana Tsuruda, Alexis White and Erin Lloyd, Our Savior Lutheran School.
