Homeless aid groups invited

Volunteer Legal Services Hawai'i is offering free workshops for faith- and community-based organizations that help O'ahu's homeless.

"Basics of Accounting and Internal Controls" will be offered Friday at the agency's office, 545 Queen St. Other workshops will be June 21 and July 21.

Charity Walk sets record

About 11,000 walkers who participated in the 26th Annual Visitor Industry Charity Walk raised a record $946,000, organizers said yesterday.

The seven-mile walk began at Ala Moana Beach Park's McCoy Pavilion and continued through Waikiki, Kapi'olani Park, along the Ala Wai and back.



WINDWARD

Kapa'a cleanup crew sought

The Windward Ahupua'a Alliance is seeking volunteers for a Kapa'a Quarry Road cleanup from 7:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. May 31.

Work will begin at the triangle area across from the Model Airplane Field on Kapa'a Quarry Road.

Camp to teach girls business

YWCA Camp Kokokahi will hold a financial literacy and entrepreneurial camp for teenage girls July 13 to 23. The camp is designed to help 14- to 19-year-olds develop business ideas. School holding fund-raiser

Koko Head Elementary School will have its annual Learning Fair and Outback Steakhouse dinner at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the school cafeteria.

Money raised will be used to pay for a physical education teacher and school programs such as the annual Keiki Karnival, as well as the school's Parent Community Networking Coordinator.

NEIGHBOR ISLAND

Baldwin student top scholar

Baldwin High School student Jonathan-James Tadao Eno has won $20,000 for college as a 2004 National Coca-Cola Scholar.

The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation awarded 249 scholarships nationwide this year to recognize outstanding seniors who demonstrated academic and civic excellence.

Eno was one of 50 students nationally to receive $20,000. Regional scholars received $4,000 scholarships.
