Noah Phillips and Mark Veneri each had three hits and three RBIs as Punahou beat Lahainaluna, 14-2, yesterday to clinch a berth in this week's state baseball tournament.

Kasey Ko, Landon Nakata and Kaohi Downing each added two RBIs as the Buffanblu cruised to victory in a game shortened to six innings at Maui's Iron Maehara Stadium because of the mercy rule.

Shaun Kiriu worked four innings, striking out six and walking one, to earn the victory for the Interscholastic League of Honolulu's runner-up.

Charles Wallace doubled and tripled for Lahainaluna, the Maui Interscholastic League runner-up.

The HHSAA/Wally Yonamine Foundation State Championships will be held Tuesday through Friday at Les Murakami Stadium on the University of Hawai'i's Lower Campus.

JUDO

Pac-Five, Punahou win titles: Pac-Five's girls and Punahou's boys won Interscholastic League of Honolulu championships yesterday at McCabe Gym.

Pac-Five won four weight classes: 98 (Maryknoll's Tabitha Lum), 109 (La Pietra's Deena Martinez), 145 (Maryknoll's Darci Hata) and 160 (Hawai'i Baptist Academy's Chaneal Meletia).

Pac-Five scored 138 points, with Punahou second with 107.

Scott Fujii (114) and Pat Nakamura (132) were the Buffanblu boys individual champions.

Punahou scored 102 points to edge Iolani (92).

The HHSAA/Judo Black Belt Association of Hawai'i Championships will be held Saturday at the McKinley High School gym, starting at 11 a.m.



BASKETBALL

St. Joseph gains berth: St. Joseph defeated Kamehameha-Big Island, 40-38, last night to clinch a berth in the HHSAA Division II State Tournament, which will be held Friday and Saturday at the Stan Sheriff Center.
