'Aiea top seed in baseball; Konawaena No. 1 in hoops

The 2004 Hawai'i High School Baseball and Girls Basketball State championships will start this week.

The HHSAA/Wally Yonamine Foundation State Baseball Championships starts tomorrow at Les Murakami Stadium.

Seeded teams 'Aiea (No. 1), Waiakea (No. 2), Mid-Pacific (No. 3) and Baldwin (No. 4) all have first-round byes.

Tomorrow's games are Honoka'a vs. Leilehua at 11:30 a.m.; Roosevelt vs. Hilo at 2 p.m.; Kaua'i vs. Pearl City at 4:30 p.m.; and Punahou vs. Kaiser at 7 p.m.

The HHSAA/Hawaiian Airlines Girls State Basketball Championships starts Wednesday at the Stan Sheriff Center with Honoka'a vs. Lahainaluna at 2:45 p.m.; Kaua'i vs. Kalaheo at 4:30 p.m.; Iolani vs. Kaiser at 6:15 p.m.; and McKinley vs. Kamehameha at 8 p.m.

Konawaena is seeded first, followed by Kahuku, Punahou and Baldwin.
