One minivan lay on its side, another on its roof after an accident at 6:44 a.m. today on the eastbound side of the H-1 Freeway near the Wai‘alae off-ramp. Emergency medical service officials said one man was taken to The Queen’s Medical Center with serious injuries.

Body is that of Hawai'i Kai man

The medical examiner’s office today identified the man whose body was found yesterday on a beach in La'ie as Ronald Sasaki, 61.

Sasaki, a Hawai'i Kai resident, had been reported missing to police at 10:30 p.m. Sunday. A tourist found Sasaki’s body on the shoreline near the 55-400 block of Kamehameha Highway at 6 a.m. yesterday, police said.

Investigators found no visible evidence of foul play. An autopsy was performed this morning to determine cause of death.

Grafitti damage brings charges

A 21-year-old man has been charged with painting grafitti on a building last night at Windward Community College. Robert McGarry is charged with fourth-degree criminal property damage, police said.

Kane'ohe patrol officers stopped McGarry on campus grounds at 10:30 p.m. and questioned him after seeing a spray-paint can in his pocket.

Guilty plea in robbery cases

A 39-year-old man pleaded guilty yesterday in federal court to two armed robberies, including the June 26, 2003, holdup of American Savings Bank’s Mililani branch. Roy Lynn Ross, nicknamed the "scream mask bandit" because he wore a Halloween mask, also pleaded guilty to robbing John Dominis restaurant on Aug. 10.

Ross was captured about 20 minutes after the John Dominis robbery as police found him hiding in a storage shed in the area.

Pedestrian killed in collision ID’d

The pedestrian killed Thursday in a collision involving five cars in Waipahu has been identified by the medical examiner’s office as 44-year-old Rodrigo Albano.

Albano was standing by a snack van on Paiwa Street near Waipahu Recreation Center when he was struck by a 1998 Kia, which had been sideswiped by a speeding 2002 Toyota Camry. An autopsy found that Albano died of multiple internal injuries after being hit by a motor vehicle.
