Body found at La'ie beach

The body of a man was found yesterday at a beach in La'ie near the 55-400 block of Kamehameha Highway. Police were notified at about 6 a.m.

A preliminary report indicated no visible signs of foul play, police said.


Pohakupu event set for Saturday

Rain over the weekend forced Pohakupu Park renovators to delay the completion of a swing set project and its dedication until this week. The dedication will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday at the park. In addition to the ceremony, there will be activities for the children, including bounce houses, games and shave ice.

Man arrested in stabbing

An 18-year-old Kalihi resident was arrested Saturday on suspicion of stabbing a 17-year-old boy during an early morning fight on May 8. The victim, of 'Ewa Beach, was stabbed twice at Kalakaua Recreation Center at 12:56 a.m.

The Kalihi man was booked on attempted murder and released. The stabbing victim's condition is not life threatening, police said.


Man charged in sexual assault

A 21-year-old Waialua man was charged Friday with sexually assaulting a juvenile on April 4. Sophorn Vong was arraigned yesterday at District Court on first-degree sex assault and three counts of third-degree sex assault.

The alleged assault occurred in Liliha.


Divorce seminar set for Thursday

A free seminar on divorce law, sponsored by O'ahu Family Court, will be held at the Hawai'i Supreme Court courtroom from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday.

Divorce attorney William C. Darrah will give an overview of laws regarding custody and visitation, division of property, child support and alimony. Participants also will learn how the legal process of divorce works in Hawai'i, where to get divorce forms and how to use them.

The seminar is part of the "Divorce Law in Hawai'i" informational program that is presented monthly. For information, call 539-4448.


Water issues to be discussed

A free seminar on bioremediation called "Options for the Future of the Watershed" will be held at 7 p.m. today at the Mo'ili'ili Community Center, 2535 S. King St., Room 207.

Bioremediation is a process in which plants and bacteria are used to break down pollutants in water.

Speakers include University of Hawai'i instructor Traci Sylva; Harry Arakaki, president of Organa Agriculture Hawai'i; and Wenhao Sun, vice president at Marine Agritech. The seminar is sponsored by the Ala Wai Watershed Association.

Parking is available on the second floor parking lot behind Down to Earth.
